Click on your Facebook icon to open the menu, and then select Settings. Clear the check boxes next to the types of notifications you don’t want to receive and then click OK.
The very first time you click the Status item in your Facebook app menu, you’ll be asked to provide your password and then to allow status updates by clicking the “Allow Status Updates” button.

Click on your Facebook icon to open the menu, and then click Logout. This logs you out of your Facebook app and is separate from your login status on Facebook itself. When you are logged out your Facebook app, you will not receive desktop notifications with your Facebook updates, such as new messages and friend requests.
